Scotland’s nemesis nation following last year’s Rugby World Cup quarter finals, Argentina, is hosting our international side for this summer’s two-match tour to South America.
The stats make challenging reading with six Cap matches played and Scotland recording just one win (49-3) from their first encounter at Murrayfield in 1990. On the last southern hemisphere sojourn in 1994, the Scots lost narrowly in both games – 16-15 and 19-17 – and will be looking to this summer’s touring team to turn the tide. The first Test takes place on 7 June in Rosario with the second on 14 June 2008 at the Velez Sarsfield Stadium, Buenos Aires.
Scotland’s upcoming Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Test series sees three exciting international sides take on the home team.
On Saturday 8 November Scotland meet mighty New Zealand at Murrayfield. The last time the All Blacks toured here, in 2005, the top price match ticket was £60 while at the recent Rugby World Cup fixture, the highest priced ticket was almost three times that; this November, the top price ticket is cut to £50 (£25 for U18s). Tickets will also be available at £20 and £30 with corresponding reductions for U18s at £10 and £15. With the game plan reading – played 25, drawn 2, New Zealand won 23 – the ‘blues’ will really be up to make history!
Then Scotland take on the number one team in the world and current Webb Ellis World Cup holders, South Africa, on Saturday 15 November at Murrayfield. The mighty Boks will be out to reinforce their position at the top of the table – while Scotland will be battling to write another tale of the unexpected! Ticket prices are the same as for the All Blacks’ game – in addition, all students in full-time education can access the U18 reductions.
The series finale sees Scotland meet Canada on Saturday 22 November, with the home side out to avenge their 2002 Vancouver defeat by the powerful North Americans. Venue and ticket prices for this fixture will be released in due course.
Tickets can be bought online at www.scottishrugby.org; via our credit card hotline on 0131-346 5100; or in person from the Scottish Rugby Ticket Centre, Roseburn Street, Edinburgh. The hotline and Ticket Centre are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. A booking fee applies for all credit and debit card transactions and there will be no tickets on sale on match days.
Following their tremendous wins against Italy and Ireland earlier this season, the Scotland A team will next be heading for North America, hoping to repeat their success in the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup.
The side will take on Canada (7 June) in Ottawa and Argentina (11 June) in Kingston with finals day in Chicago on 21 June. Results as they happen will be posted on the Scottish Rugby web site.
After recent sojourns to Asia and Australia, Scotland’s sevens squad is coming home – via the London fixture – for the IRB World Series finale in Edinburgh at the end of May, competing for the Ned Haig Cup. Having completed six tournaments of the eight-event season, coach Stephen Gemmell’s side is currently in 11th spot in the Series standings.
The squad’s run of nine consecutive Cup quarter finals came to an end in Hong Kong, following a surprise defeat by China. However the squad has put in some fantastic performances over the season, including those from newcomers Greig Laidlaw and James Thompson.
